Tour, Interrupted
The rest of the days
After spending the night with Suzanne, I took the ferry across Lake Michigan with my bicycle to Milwaukee, where I met my mom! We spent the whole day exploring Milwaukee and lounging at a beach.
The next day, I hopped on my unloaded bicycle to ride 60 miles to our next destination. 30 miles later, I realized I was no faster without my gear and that my mom had been sitting and waiting for me without much to do. After flying from New Mexico to meet me, I felt as though it would be really nice to spend time with her rather than continue riding (especially because I had sort of ridden in the area before so it wasn't entirely new terrain to experience).
This is how, 30 miles into my day, I decided to continue my tour as a road trip with my mom. We wound our way slowly to Minneapolis, camping along the way. It was really beautiful and relaxing! It was slightly disappointing to cut my tour short and I feel pretty embarrassed about it, because I rarely stop short of what I set out to complete, but it worked out quite nicely.
Next: I spend the summer as a software engineer for Target, return to Cornell for my final year of school there, and then-- fingers crossed-- another big adventure!
I look forward to the day I once again have wonderful things to blog about. This tour, once again, proved to me how generous and kind many people are. I realized more than ever how fantastic Canada is, and that perhaps I need to be more strategic about my camping choices. I had a great time, and-- while it was short-- had experiences that I will cherish.
Till next time!
