Bike Tour v3
I'm headed out again!
Goal: Santa Fe, NM to Minneapolis, MN (~1400 miles)
This year I do not ride alone, for the most part. Meeting me in Durango, CO is my Appalachian Trail friend South Pole (aka Tracie)! It will certainly be a change of pace, as I have never planned or executed a trip with another person, and I'm excited to see how this will change my perspective of bicycle touring. South Pole and I hiked together for about three months on the AT and she is slow, steady, and relentless in the pursuit of her goals. She once encouraged me through hiking 43 miles in 23 hours. South Pole is also an avid marathoner. Her name came from a marathon she ran in Antarctica. She has run countless other marathons and a few months after the AT, she helped me run my first marathon.
I'm nervous for this ride, as I'll be spending a great deal of time in the mountains of Colorado with very little training. It's also a challenge I'm looking forward to. The local bike shop in Las Cruces, NM helped me come up with more improvements to my bike setup, like smaller gears for riding in mountains, extra strength tires, a third water bottle holder, and a rear fender.
I have exactly one month until my first day of work, so until then... I ride :)
