Tunnel of Trees

Sunday, June 1 (Day 16)

Distance: 84.5 miles
Average: 11.4 mph
Max: 33.9
Total: 952 miles

Laura rode with me for about 25 miles this morning, and showed me a really nice way to get to Mackinaw City.

It was fun to ride with her! Laura is very sweet and I am so happy I got to meet her and stay with her.

I stayed along Torch Lake, and then along Lake Michigan on country roads and a historic highway (known as the Tunnel of Trees) all of which were very lightly trafficked and beautiful.

I took a nice bike path along Little Traverse Bay.

Not too many encounters with people today, unfortunately. There's another bike tourer staying in my campground but he seems a bit creepy and we didn't really talk...

This campground has wifi! It's kind of confusing. All the campsites have electric/water hookups.

I washed some of my clothes in the sink and kind of dried them with the electric hand drier, which was an interesting experience. I'll save my future clothes washing for nights without a rain forecast.

Tomorrow it's supposed to rain all day, and I'm going to take the famed Mackinac Bridge to the upper peninsula of Michigan!

  1. It's really exciting to check how far you made it every day :-) I love the picture of Laura on her bike with the blue sky and the green field - so vivid colors. It must be very exciting meeting so many terrific and caring people.

  3. Glad to see that I was described as "fabled" when you met me just over a week ago, and not as "creepy" like this guy. Haha. It was great meeting you and Remi. Keep it up! -jason (the fabled)
