A tailwind
Saturday, June 14 (Day 29)
Distance: 58 miles
Average speed: 12.6 mph
Max: 21.8 mph
Weather: Overcast, rainy, tailwind and cross wind
I set off at a record 5:45 am, hoping to beat the rain, and flew 18 miles before it hit (although I only kept flying after it began-- wonderful tailwind!).
I saw a field with 20 or more horses, and they all looked at me and kind of ran after me. I also saw two miniature horses and their even more miniature colts!
I had to stop taking pictures once the rain began.
Michael left the barn about half an hour after me and caught up to me three hours later.
We rode together for about another 30 miles. He's quite funny! He went much further than I did and I think he'll be far ahead of me very soon.
I arrived at the house of my warmshowers host at an alarmingly early 10:30 am and was warmly welcomed by Ron and Monica and their twin sons, who are my age.
Ron teaches high school English and Monica teaches 4th grade in this tiny town. I think their whole school has about 400 students so they can't offer too many programs in high school. Their daughter was involved in many extracurriculars and they told me it was because most people have to participate or it wouldn't happen. No tryouts for sports and no one gets cut!
The evening brought a thunderstorm, which made me so grateful to be indoors. Tomorrow the forecast is rainy until early afternoon and windy all day. Let the adventure continue!

I can't believe you are on the road for almost a month, bicycling so many miles every day. Congrats, You rock! Thanks for the postcard. I appreciate it and loved what you wrote about changing :-)
